We are heading to the East coast! A drive and ride departing at 9am from the Barnbow. Transport will be provided if you notify us on spond that you are joining us.
Route Description: we start with a mile of single track in the woods then ‘undulating’ minor roads for circa 5 miles to get to Langdale forest, 5miles of steady climbing (no steep climbs just always up hill), through Langdale (this is part of the ‘Moors to Sea’ cycle trail, we breakout of the forest onto open moorland, this is the highest point at circa 1000 ft. Crossing the open moor a little more rugged than the fire roads of the forest gives absolutely stunning views of the coast and north sea, and the Fylingdales early warning military base. Then an amazing 4 miles of downhill, short tarmac climb then 5 miles back on minor roads all dropping down to the coast. We join the Cinder Track at Stainsacre and head south to RH Bay for lunch. Possible extra cafe/ice cream stop at Ravenscar. Leave the cinder track at Scalby, for a short minor road section back to the east end of Raincliffe Wood where we enjoy our last short sharp gravel section back to the car park.
For anyone wanting to use their own transport here are directions for the start car park (approximately 10.45am meet): A170 into West Ayton, turn left signed Forge Valley, then turn first right after circa 2mls onto Low Road. Raincliffe woods now on the right, there are several car parks along this road, all would do if busy, but try to use the one at what3words, owls.pickup.outbursts (about the third car park along), as this is where we enter the woods.
Suitable for all bikes with knobbly tyres and please don’t forget your helmet.
